Meet the GPNEMBA Board

GPNEMBA is led entirely by volunteers that give their time, energy, and expertise to improving Greater Portland trails and the mountain bike community for all who love outdoor recreation. They are working tirelessly to develop world-class mountain biking across Greater Portland while building an MTB community that supports every kind of rider in making the most of this most radical of hobbies.

Ryan started the Falmouth/Windham & Portland trail crews & helps lead marketing, communications, fundraising, and new trail projects. Ryan is excited to bring the quality of singletrack he’s been privileged to experience around the world to his adopted hometown. He took over the President role from Billy Czaja in 2025.

Sam lives in Gorham.  He loves riding all the networks but Gorham would have to be his favorite. Sam helps lead the Trails Team, trail efforts in Gorham, and new trail projects across Greater Portland.

Karen splits her time between Standish & Carrabassett Valley, and is the much-appreciated keeper of GPMEMBA’s financial resources.

A Falmouth resident and former member of the Falmouth Town Council, Aaron is our Secretary, writing amazing succinct meeting notes, driving us towards clarity and action, and also helps lead our group rides in the Falmouth area.

Freeport/Bradbury Lead
Joined the Board in 2022

Ray joined the Board in 2022 and is focused on Freeport-area mountain biking, notably Bradbury Mountain State Park, as well as trail development in the local area outside the Park. A retired triathlete, Ray has only recently embraced trail riding but is enthusiastically making up for lost time.

Michael lives in Portland and serves as our Membership Lead as as a Group Ride Leader. His favorite trails in the Greater Portland area are in Blackstrap Preserve.

Joined the Board in 2025

Molly lives in Falmouth near the Blackstrap Preserve and is an Associate Broker with Vitalius Real Estate Group. She is usually riding Blackstrap, but also enjoys the kid-friendly aspects of the Gorham trails. She hopes to help GPNEMBA with fundraising, marketing and getting more women involved in the mountain biking community. Keep a lookout for her on the Blackstrap trails with her family and her fluffy dog, Basil, and make sure to say hi!

Effie is from Portland and lives in Gray, close to her favorite riding spots at Blackstrap and Libby Hill. When she’s not riding or running on the trails, Effie is helping people get outside through programs with Maine Outdoor Kids and Lupine Collective. She’s also a PMBIA-certified Mtb Instructor.

Jason is from Scarborough and is President/CEO of Evergreen Credit Union in Portland. Jason has always been an avid biker but really got into mountain biking in early 2021. Jason is also an ARI Bikes Ambassador who has good knowledge on bike mechanics as he built/customized his two bikes.

Mark is a former NEMBA Connecticut chapter leader and is able to combine his love for mountain biking with a career in the outdoor sports industry, working as store manager for Gorham Bike and Ski. An avid cyclist from early on, Mark turned his focus to mountain biking in 2015 and can be found, in his free time, riding, building and maintaining the trails throughout the greater Portland area.

Billy recently left the GPNEMBA board after serving as President from 2023-2025. He helped oversee the development of new trails in East Windham, Gorham, Libby Hill, and the new bike park at Portland’s Riverton Trolley Park. He’s moving back to Connecticut but will still be supporting our efforts from afar.

Strategic Planning Lead

Liz is an avid outdoor enthusiast who participates in many activities and is good at none of them, being the self-professed “Queen of the Green Trails”. She will be working on long term strategic planning for GPNEMBA. Liz bounces between Auburn and Greenwood, and can be found either with a hammer in her hand building  her house or riding Superchicken at Mt. Abram.

GPNEMBA’s Trails Team is a group of volunteers that lead critical maintenance & new trail projects at networks across Greater Portland. They hold trusted relationships with land owners, rally volunteers, and commit countless hours to ensuring the quality of the riding & recreating in Greater Portland improves every year.

Ryan manages the Trails Team with Sam, working to create regional alignment around the IMBA Ride Center vision and helping initiate special projects. He also runs the new Portland Trail Crew.

Sam has been instrumental in building more than 50+ miles of trail in Gorham as well as special projects across the region. He helps co-lead the Trails Team and provide hard-win wisdom.

Brian lives in Windham and is a tireless volunteer who’s stepped up to take on leadership of the Falmouth-Windham Trail Crew with Adam.

Ada worked in mountain bike advocacy and coaching in the Bay Area before returning East to Falmouth and committing his time and energy to the local trails. Him & Brian co-lead our efforts in Falmouth and Windham.

Libby Trails Lead, Special Projects

Tyler has long been leading progressive trailwork in the area, spearheading construction of the Busta Move trail at Blackstrap and Libby Chill & Libby Thrills — the biggest public jump trail in Maine! Tyler helps GPNEMBA develop world-class gravity and jump trails.

Special Projects

Carter worked as a professional trail builder for five seasons building natural and machine-built trails in Maine, including much of the machine-built work at Sugarloaf. Now back in the Portland area, Carter is helping GPNEMBA develop well-built jump & gravity trails.
