Help us cross the finish line at Lowell Preserve!

We’re 90% of the way to our goal of $30,000 raised<!–

Friends,

Are we living in Seattle? The skiing’s looking killer in November (you seen those pics from Jay & Mt. Washington?) and down by the coast, the dirt’s still riding well and the ground is far from frozen — so we ain’t done diggin’ yet! In fact, both Chris Cyr from Sanctuary Trails and Max Southam from Mt. Abram Trails are working simultaneously on different trails in Lowell Preserve, and we’re actively working to finish the first segment of a new XC trail in Portland. As we’ve been saying all year, the best is yet to come!

It’s been really exciting to see all these projects come together after a LOT of hard work by a lot of volunteers, our board, and our partners, the organizations who’ve given grants to our effort, and the more than 110 donors who’ve supported our Lowell Preserve trails fundraiser. If you haven’t join these donors in supporting the development of world-class MTB trails in Lowell, join upwe are 90% of the way to our goal of raising $30,000.

We’re on our way to doing amazing things here in Greater Portland, and you’re a part of it.

Ride on,
Ryan

Max Southam & Mt. Abram Trails Are Underway!

We continue moving forward in Lowell Preserve in our partnership with Presumpscot Regional Land Trust and the Town of Windham to extend the trail quality of East Windham further East along the Falmouth-Windham Corridor into Lowell by revamping much of the singletrack trail network there.

This weekend we were able to host a special group ride where folks got to get tires onto Sanctuary Trail’s new XC trail for the first time. Reports were good, and while the trail is still closed, we’re working to fully dial this trail in before opening it to the public.

Meanwhile, Max Southam & Mt. Abram Trails have broken ground on the first of two 1/2 mile downhill MTB trails in the Southwest of the property (where no trails exist today). Max has started off on the more advanced and technical of the two trails, and in the weeks to come we’ll be sharing more about a volunteer work day to cut in a new climb trail to the start zone, and the opening of this first trail.

One thing that is essential to ensuring both of these trails can get built this fall is joining over 110 fellow donors in helping us raise the final $3,500 to close out our $30,000 fundraiser and give the Mt. Abram team all the resources they need to finish these great trails for us. Join us!

Join us for a special group ride Wednesday at Furrland in Scarborough

Nonesuch River Woods, along the railroad tracks in Scarborough, has quietly developed into a 12-mile, off-the-map XC network built almost singlehandedly by Scott Furr over the past 15 years. Similar to Gorham, there’s not a ton of elevation, but an incredible amount of trail in a part of Greater Portland sorely lacking in quality MTB riding. While the trails are on privately-owned land held by the railroad, which has condoned this unofficial network over the years, the railroad is now planning to log the area, likely demolishing many of the trails in the process.

This Wednesday, we’re hosting a special group ride at Nonesuch — aka “Furrland” — with Scott himself to learn about the history of his work in the area, get to sample this awesome network, and learn how the Greater Portland MTB community can advocate to keep these trails permanent and public. Join us for a special Wednesday ride and help advocate for MTB access in Scarborough
