Blackstrap Trail Plan Open House Thursday!

Plus Barred Behavior is (soft) opened<!–

Hey folks,

The leaves are down, but there’s still some juice to squeeze out of this season yet (and voting to do this Tuesday)! We just finished & soft opened the new Barred Behavior XC trail in Fore River Sanctuary in Portland (a BIG thanks to Zach Magoon & Tom Burns for running our Portland Trail Crew this year!), opened the brand-new dirt jump lines at Lavoie Bike Park in Gorham (big thanks to all our Gorham Trail Ops volunteers & donors!), celebrated the renamed Windham Community Forest (the unified name for what has been to date East Windham Conservation Area & Lowell Preserve) and have started fieldwork in earnest for the Blackstrap & North Falmouth trail planning project we are collaborating on with Falmouth Land Trust & the Town of Falmouth.

In the mix of all that, we also organized our 60th community event this season — a huge thanks to GPNEMBA board member Michael Greene in particular for leading a seemingly nonstop series of group rides that meant, at many points throughout this season, you could look forward to three or even four volunteer-led mountain bike rides and events right here in Greater Portland.

Of course, there’s still some season ahead of us, and a few more key GPNEMBA events, including this Thursday’s Blackstrap/North Falmouth trail planning open house (more below) and our end of season social in December. Keep the wheels turning and be sure to wear orange now that it’s hunting season!

Blackstrap Trail Planning Open House this Thursday, November 5th

GPNEMBA has partnered with Falmouth Land Trust and the Town of Falmouth on our first professional trail planning project to guide a brand-new trails master plan for Blackstrap Preserve & North Falmouth Community Forest. The team at Outdoor Sport Institute has begun fieldwork to evaluate every mile of trail at both properties and develop a trail master plan that will solve for long-term sustainability, reduce user conflicts, and provide the world-class experiences for all users we’ve long believed these properties could host. Join us this Thursday, November 5th at the Falmouth Town Hall from 5:00-7:00 for an Open House where, in as little as 10 minutes, you can pass through interactive kiosks and chat with the project team to provide your feedback on what you want the future of these trail networks to look like!

If you’re unable to be there in person, an online survey will follow.

Our 2026 End of Season Social is December 16th

Excited to announce that our annual end of season social will be returning to Brickyard Hollow in Portland Wednesday, December 16th. We have an incredible amount of exciting wins in 2026 to celebrate, from new trails in Windham, Gorham, and Portland to over 60 group rides and community events. And we have an incredible 2027 on tap we can’t wait to preview.

RSVP to lock in your spot and tell all your competing holiday parties you’re already tied up celebrating with a community dedicated to a world-class future for Greater Portland mountain biking!
